The new student accommodation, refectory and conferencing facilities sensitively respond to their greenbelt setting without compromising on quality. The scheme is organised as a collection of three and four storey timber clad pavilions. The spaces between the pavilions provide intimate courtyards that are already becoming popular with the students. The project achieved BREEAM Very Good by inclusion of renewable and green technologies including water and energy management, solar hot-water and grey water recycling.

The mechanical design comprised the provision of LTHW heating via dedicated boiler plant to each building block providing heating and backup supplies to the domestic hot water calorifiers primarily fed via solar collectors located on each plantroom roof.

The electrical systems comprised of a new central distribution centre which in turn fed all the blocks and the refectory, individual fire alarm systems all interlinked and connected to the existing main network at the security lodge, internal and external lighting, general power, network connectivity to the existing data system and the detailed servicing of the new refectory and kitchen
